Welcome to the Four Seasons by Maciej Kuźmiński (PL) and the Central Europe Dance Theatre (HU) on Saturday 14th March 18:00 at Vitlycke – Centre for Performing Arts. Inspired by Vivaldi’s famous four violin concertos, this dance performance reflects on the cycle of human existence, the accelerated pace of life in the 21st century and the hopeful dissolution in community.

Maciej Kuźmiński is a Polish choreographer whose works often revolve around philosophical concepts and are described as pure, with grounded, dynamic movement. His independent pieces made for Maciej Kuźmiński Company have received more than 30 awards for choreography, making Kuźmiński one of the most often awarded Polish dance creators. The Four Seasons, a collaboration between the choreographer and the Central Europe Dance Theatre, reaches back to the rites of East-Central Europe and reinterprets them in the context of the 21st century. The piece is also concerned with the subjective perception of time, and is therefore dominated by repetition, dynamic contemporary dance movement languages and partnering techniques.
The Four Seasons captures the experience of moving forward in human life and addresses existential questions such as rebirth in life, the role of the individual in society and the existential benefits of chaos and harmony. The piece revisits the movement qualities of European contemporary dance and the foundations of Hungarian folk dance. While Vivaldi’s music creates four different atmospheres with distinctive movement language, all the parts are closely linked and addresses such themes as the role of communities, belonging and the birth of individuality.
