Throughout a long career in contemporary dance, Guy Cools has worked with internationally renowned choreographers including Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Akram Khan, Koen Augusteijnen, and Lia Haraki, accompanying creative processes through dialogue, reflection, and critical exchange.
Cools describes his role as that of a witness, dialogue partner, and editor. Rather than imposing artistic solutions, he engages in an ongoing conversation with choreographers, helping them articulate their ideas, deepen their research, and shape the structure and rhythm of their work. His dramaturgical practice adapts to the needs of each artist, ranging from attentive observation and feedback to a more active involvement in the development of concepts and performances. At the core of Cools’ work is the belief that dramaturgy creates a space for reflection within the creative process, supporting artists in finding clarity, coherence, and new perspectives while remaining true to their own artistic voice.
